pura vida

an experiment in forced family fun

dEbí tIrar mÁs fotOs

I know I’ve stolen Bad Bunny’s album name, but out of respect for him, I’ve reversed the capitalization. But the meaning is similar (or at least my understanding of his meaning): When you look back you wish you would’ve captured more of the special moments in your life. This is especially true as a former wannabe photographer. And Bad Bunny’s sentiment (debí tirar más fotos) applies to all those years of camping trips, dinners, sports days, ping pong, cousins playing. Having those moments as shadows in our memories has been the hardest thing about moving here.

BUT…another Bad Bunny lyric pops up when I think about the trip with two of the families over Christmas: “Hoy se bebe. Hoy se gasta” (Today we drink. Today we spend.) And luckily I took some photos from that trip. Enjoy.

[I fully realize the other meaning of Bad Bunny’s song on this post title, and we grapple with our contributions to Costa Rica’s gentrification problem, but that’s a post for another day.]
